Founded in 2018, the Migrant Labour Trainers\u2019 Association (MILTA) is a Not for Profit Organisation representing all Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) accredited and licensed Pre-Departure Safe Migration Orientation and Training Centers (PDTC) for potential migrant workers in Uganda. We focus on training and upskilling trainers to ensure they can effectively prepare migrant workers for the realities of working and living abroad. This includes developing and implementing standardized training programs to certify trainers in various aspects of pre-departure orientation, offering ongoing professional development opportunities for trainers to stay updated on the latest practices and policies in labor migration, and creating specialized training modules that trainers can use to address the specific needs and challenges of different categories of migrant workers.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

MILTA acts as a unified voice for the interests of PDTCs and migrant workers by collaborating with the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development and other relevant government agencies to influence policy and uphold migrant workers’ rights. We partner with organizations such as the IOM and ILO to align our programs with global standards and practices, and we work with recruitment agencies to ensure ethical recruitment practices and compliance with national and international standards.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

MILTA is committed to continuous improvement through rigorous monitoring and evaluation of our programs and services. MILTA Uganda provides comprehensive counseling and support services, including HIV awareness and prevention education, tailored for potential migrant workers. These services aim to equip individuals with vital health information, fostering safer migration practices. MILTA collaborates with licensed Pre-Departure Safe Migration Orientation and Training Centers (PDTCs) to address migrants’ physical and emotional well-being. By promoting HIV testing, offering support for those affected, and advocating for stigma-free environments, MILTA ensures informed decision-making and health-conscious migration. By working with accredited Pre-Departure Safe Migration Orientation and Training Centers (PDTCs), MILTA gathers critical insights into migration trends, challenges, and opportunities. This data is used to identify potential risks, such as exploitation or unsafe working conditions, and to improve pre-departure training programs. MILTA also conducts studies on health, labor rights, and socio-economic factors affecting migrants.
